To kick off Summer and the end of the school year, we celebrated Canada Day and had a pot luck party. As kids spend too much time inside and mostly sitting down during the school year, the 6 to 12 program at Futurekids provides wonderful outings to waterparks and many sports activities outside. The teachers diligently nurture the children’s adventure skills and athletic abilities.
Summer Camp is all about having fun, making friends and being part of a group. At Futurekids Centre, the first week was dedicated to team building activities where children had to think beyond me to we. The challenges they met (e.g. water ballon toss) required not only communication and trust but also coordination.
The following week was about ‘The leader in Me.’ Thinking outside the box, teaching each other things, and managing daily choices in a safe caring environment with the teacher’s guide, allowed the children at Futurekids to blossom in new direction. It was interesting to see how children at Futurekids came up with different ideas when given same materials to create things.
For the Go Green week, the children learnt the importance of being environmentally conscious (reduce, reuse and recycle) and they planted beans. They also enjoyed working together in making our ‘CollabraTree’ Art using natural materials.
Who doesn’t like game shows. Children are no different. They especially enjoyed our version of Futurekids Family Feud and cupcake wars. The best part was everyone won.
The last week in July was about ‘Skillastics’. Children hustled their muscles and were all champions. They brainstormed the qualities of a mad scientist and got involved in creative experiments.
