To end the school year, the Futurekids Out of School Program prepared for an amazing race around the world. Children made their own passports and had to perform a challenge from a certain part of the world to receive a stamp for their passport. Challenges included things like…Building structures such as Big Ben, The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China.
Or completing the 7 continent floor puzzle.
Children also made their very own Earth Globes.
Music plays such a big role in every family from around the world. You listen to it to relax, to get excited or just to keep track of all the new songs. We played music from different countries and the children in the Futurekids Out of School Program had to guess which country the music belonged to. They also explored different instruments from around the world, made their own straw windpipe and organized their own band. It was colourful and noisy but we had lots of fun.
The teachers then divided the class into four groups with a group leader in each group. They had to pick a fairytale and write a musical to follow the storyline. On the Friday, they showed us their musical storytelling.
As part of the cooking activity for the evolution of music, the children decorated cookies with chocolate icing and m & m’s. The resulting decorated cookies looked like creative tambourines or drums all while tasting great.
The Earth would be incomplete without outer space. The sheer vastness of it, along with the trillions upon trillions of objects in the many billion galaxies of the universe is almost incomprehensible to the human brain.
This week, we focused on outdoor games and activities as the sun was out and it was hot so instead of being inside, we did most of our activities outside. We created a space backdrop and added our planets, stars and the moon. When that was complete, we had a fun photo shoot and the kids pretended to be in space.
