Daycare & Preschool: Eh! Canada

Traveling across Canada this school year has been an amazing opportunity to learn about our country. Our graduation recital divulged some of the important aspects of each province and territory that our children at Futurekids, a daycare, and preschool in Coquitlam, learned. Of course, the recital would not be complete without signing the national anthem in both English and French.

June is our time for progress reports. Our teachers at Futurekids, a preschool, and daycare located in Coquitlam, meticulously evaluate the children in two formats; a checklist which focuses on specific skills or concepts and a narrative which recognizes that each child is unique and whose development is fluid (for example the development of independence, initiative, responsibility, confidence, cooperation, concentration, social awareness, etc.) The teachers assess each child’s cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical, and creative development from the time that they started with us and personalize each child’s report.

Some may think loonie was the craziest word for our one-dollar coin, right? No! You can understand it when you see the picture of a loon and then the term falls into place. When the two-dollar coin came out with the picture of a polar bear, did we call it Polie? No, we naturally called it a tonnie, because Canadians love to rhyme. Our children also loved rhyming through songs, books, and games.

Our celebration of Canada would not be complete without fireworks, frozen treats, and Canadian themed tattoos. Don’t worry, they aren’t permanent!
